IE Bookmarks to OPML

<1 min read

I've written a Perl script which automatically converts IE's bookmarks or favorites to OPML. I used it to build my Bookmarks Directory. Let me know if you are interested in getting an advanced copy. [12/19: The script is now available directly.]

Mr. Consumer Speaks. I used to thrive on always getting the latest, newest, fastest and whatever-est regardless of whether I needed it or not. Nowadays, I pretty much always go for what I actually need; nothing more, nothing less. I've quietly become a very patient customer, who carefully schedules and plans all new purchases… God… I am Mr. Dull. ;-)

Radio UserLand 7.0b32 is out. This is the tool I use to edit some of this site with.

The End of SSL and SSH?. The problems have always been there. You might also want to read the related Slashdot discussion.

Audion 2.0 is out. One of the nicest MP3 player for the Mac. The new version appears to be packed with features, including the ability to create MP3s from CDs.

My Red Hat Linux 6.2 install of Forte for Java CE 2.0 has problems with KDE 2.0.1. I haven't had the chance to do much investigating, but it all worked fine when I tried it under Gnome. It could well be related to the way I had to install KDE 2.0.

Mac OS X: One Step Forward, None Back? Computers & peripherals are obsolete the minute you buy them. There's always something better, smaller or faster in the pipeline. You might also want to check the MacSlash discussion on the subject.

AOL-TW Merger: FCC may require instant messaging compatibility. There maybe hope for AIM after all.

Analysts put Apple on the couch. Tom King has some good suggestions.

What Coding Resource Should I Use?. I personally prefer resources which are specific to a certain programming or scripting language.

Legal Code. Open-source, GPL licenses, etc. explained by a lawyer that doesn't talk in legalese (Isn't than an oxymoron?)

I've created a directory with my bookmarks.

Cable Out!

Our AT&T Broadband Digital Cable has been out since the power was restored yesterday morning. As usual they have no clues as to when it will be fixed.

We went to see What Women Want yesterday. It has been a long time since I've had this much fun at the movies. I gave it 4 stars.

We just love our entertainers:

mIRC 5.82 it out. A few bug fixes and new features.

Hollywood dealt setback in DVD code case. DeCSS rulez!

BT sues Prodigy over U.S. hyperlink patent. Isn't there a patent for patenting ridiculous patents?

Song of the week: Breathless by The Corrs. Produced by John "Mutt" Lange, Shania Twain's hubby.

Power Out!

We lost power around 11:30 last nite until around 11 this morning. Apparently a tree fell onto a PSE power line.

MacHack 2001 call for papers. It'll be interesting to see what the ratio of Mac OS X vs. Classic hacks will actually be.

Corel says adios to Linux. What about all the talks of Corel becoming the Evil Empire's entry point into the Linux world? Corel issued a press release which neither confirms nor denies the rumor.

Man lived in teen girl's closet. How does a teenager gets to have a sleep-in closet? ;-)

Has the Internet peaked? The Internet and the Web are no longer novelties, that's for sure.

AOL, Time Warner merger approved.. Which is worse? The U.S. Supreme Court 5-4 vote, or the FTC 5-0 vote? :-P

Style & Technology: The new Palm Vx Claudia Schiffer Edition. Cute. ;-)

XML.com has a pretty good article on Using XML and Relational Databases with Perl, as well as a Q&A document titled: Will XML replace HTML?

Saint Oops! That's very smart. By claiming to be a virgin, she can date all she want without completely alienating her male fan-base.

Windows Media Player 7 for Pocket PC. How long will I be able to resist buying a Pocket PC?

Net2Phone to End Free Web Calls. No big loss, the free service quality was never any good. Last I tried free web2phone services Dialpad.com seemed to provide the best voice/audio quality, although latency was high.

Indecision 2000 - As seen in the U.S. Supreme Court transcript from Bush v. Gore:

Klock: No, Justice Breyer. What I'm saying is…
Souter: I'm Justice Souter. You've got to cut that out.

Scalia: Mr. Klock? I'm Scalia.
Klock: Yes, sir? I'll remember that.
Scalia: Correct me if I'm wrong…
Klock: It will be hard to forget.

Indecision 2000 - We're nothing more than a modern democracy that can't count votes.

Indecision 2000 - What's the rush? Florida shouldn't worry about blowing its electoral vote deadline; Hawaii did it as recently as 1960.

Brace yourself, we're in shortage of Cheetos!

The Insider testifies in tobacco case.

Yahoo! on Minitel! I'm not too surprised. France Telecom has been doing a terrific job promoting Minitel terminals as replacement for bulky phonebooks, etc.

CreditCards.com gets ripped off. Why did they wait so long before spilling the beans?

Will Google's Purity Pay Off? Google is quickly becoming my search engine of choice. I still use Yahoo!, for basic searches. I like the way search results are categorized. Yahoo! also uses Google when searching web pages.

Wireless Net phones hit by waplash. WAP services are not ready for prime time, at least not yet.

Sun to release Java 2 for PalmOS. I've been using J2ME and KVM for a little while. It's a little rough right now, but definitely has a lot of potential.

Universal Records - the label which has been so outspoken against Napster - is being sued for copyright infringement on the Web. I guess it means distributing unlicensed music is not a problem for them. They just don't want anybody else to do it.

Slashdot has a review of Perl for System Administrators, the new book from O'Reilly and Associates.

Because of Indecision 2000, we've been watching CNN more than usual. I really can't stand most of their anchors, but I have to admit that I'm quite infatuated with Daryn Kagan. She's smart, quick and doesn't try to sensationalize everything like others do. She's kinda cute too. :-)
