FCC shuns Google plans for open mobile network
Two Democratic members of the Federal Communications Commission have lent their support to an open-access wireless network proposal, giving it a majority backing, but stopped short of supporting a broader provision proposed by Google.
Why am I not surprised?
Mobile Thumbnails
I'm already using mowser for the links on my mobile blog, but now I'm also using some of its PHP code to display thumbnails.
Russ gave me some of his code for generating thumbnails on the fly. The funny thing is that Russ and I originally met online when I sent him some Java code to create thumbnails for a scrapbook webapp he had created. I guess he's returning the favor.
Thanks, Russ!
Vista use grows as Mac OS X stays flat
According to Net Applications, in June
Windows Vista accounted for 4.52% of all systems that browsed the Web, up from January's 0.18%. Vista has grown its usage share each month since its release to consumers Jan. 30, hitting 0.93% in February, 2.04% in March, 3.02% in April and 3.74% in May. Apple Inc.'s Mac OS X, meanwhile, accounted for 6.22% in January and hit its high point of 6.46% in May, but it slipped back to 6% in June.
Does it mean that Mac users are surfing less and less, yet Apple is selling more macs?
iPhone Sales Miss Target
Although there were only two days left to Q2 when Apple began selling the iPhone, that appeared to be enough to help boost profits and revenues…With the June 29 launch of the iPhone, AT&T activated 146,000 iPhone subscribers, more than 40 percent of them new to AT&T.
146K activations is a far cry from 500K. Did a lot of people buy iPhones and not (or could not) activate them?
Man Dodges Taxes For 10 Years, Wins In Federal District Court
A Shreveport attorney who has challenged the government for years on the legality of filing federal income taxes has been acquitted on charges he failed to file returns.
It'll probably be overturned in appeal, even though he's most likely right.
The 'Price Is Right' for Drew Carey!
Comedian Drew Carey confirmed to David Letterman today that he is indeed going to take over for Bob Barker as host of "The Price Is Right."
I still won't watch.
