GooglME 0.2 beta 2
GooglME 0.2 beta 2
I just made GooglME 0.2 beta 2 available for testing.
This version features the ability to manually set the Google SMS service number.
This will help greatly with testing, as well as ensure that GooglME readily works whenever Google adds support for more countries.
Additionally GooglME could also be used with various SMS-type services, like the recently announced UpSnap Free 411.

GooglME 0.2 beta
Andrew Orlowski has written a nice article on GooglME for The Register — Thanks.
Also thanks to everybody who emailed me about compatibility with their phones. GooglME has now been successfully tested on:
- BlackBerry 7210
- Motorola A845
- Motorola V600
- Motorola V220
- Nokia 3650
- Nokia 6600/6620
- Nokia 7610
- Nokia N-Gage
- Sony Ericsson K700i
- Sony Ericsson T616
The next version, which features a history list and a setting for a permanent location is available for beta testing at:
http://mobile.thauvin.net/j2me/beta/
The MIDP 1.0 version can be directly downloaded to your phone at:
http://mobile.thauvin.net/j2me/beta/GooglME.jad
The MIDP 2.0 version at:
http://mobile.thauvin.net/j2me/beta/GooglME-2.jad
The beta version is feature complete, and hopefully bug free. I just need to know if it works on all supported devices. So, once again, email me with your compatibility reports.
Thanks in advance.
GooglME
GooglME provides a simple front-end for the recently announced Google SMS.
A quick hack I wrote over the weekend using J2ME. It should work on any device supporting MIDP 1.0/2.0 and the Wireless Messaging API (WMA).
So far it has been successfully tested on the following:
- Motorola A845
- Nokia 3650
- Nokia 6600/6620
- Nokia 7610
- Nokia N-Gage
- Sony Ericsson T616
Theoretically, it should also run on the Motorola V300, V400 and V600.
J2ME is no different than J2SE. Write once, debug everywhere. Thanks to Russ, Ewan, Matt and Matthew for helping with the testing.
GooglME is open source.
My 7610 Journey
My 7610 Journey Charlie was nice enough to send me a Nokia 7610 to play with. I received it a couple weeks ago, and here's what happened since then… Read more…
Lifeblog 1.0
Lifeblog 1.0 Charlie just announced Lifeblog 1.0. Congrats! I installed it on my 7610 and PC. Be sure to remove any previous version from both your phone and PC before installing the new version. Other than that, it seems to work like a charm. The trial version will allow you to store up to 200 items. I've also updated LifeBlogger to support the new release. Backward compatibility with 0.9x remains.
