GooglME 0.2 beta 2 I just made GooglME 0.2 beta 2 available for testing. This version features the ability to manually set the Google SMS service number. This will help greatly with testing, as well as ensure that GooglME readily works whenever Google adds support for more countries. Additionally GooglME could also be used with various SMS-type services, like the recently announced UpSnap Free 411.

Flu I've been nurturing a flu since last weekend. I think it was handed down by Vik's nephews while we were doing some baby-sitting. That's the nice thing about kids, they get the lite version and always give you the full featured one. Wiki Last Friday, I moved my wiki from JSPWiki to SnipSnap. JSPWiki was nice but simply lacked the kind of security features I was looking for. SnipSnap is extremely easy to install, and seems to be doing the job. I did find a couple bugs which I reported here and here. I also created a GooglME Support Area on the wiki. Insert Date/Time 1.3.2 Yesterday I updated my Insert Date/Time extensions for compatibility with BBEdit 8.x. I had to dust off a copy of CodeWarrior 6 to compile them. I still can't believe that these extensions are over 10 years old.

Introducing GooglME…

GooglME provides a simple front-end for the recently announced Google SMS.

A quick hack I wrote over the weekend using J2ME. It should work on any device supporting MIDP 1.0/2.0 and the Wireless Messaging API (WMA).

So far it has been successfully tested on the following:

• Motorola A845
• Nokia 3650
• Nokia 6600/6620
• Nokia 7610
• Nokia N-Gage
• Sony Ericsson T616

Testing on various 3650 has yielded sporadic results. Your mileage may vary.

Theoretically, it should also run on the Motorola V300, V400 and V600.

J2ME is no different than J2SE. Write once, debug everywhere. Thanks to Russ, Ewan, Matt and Matthew for helping with the testing.

GooglME is open source.

Lifeblog 1.0 Charlie just announced Lifeblog 1.0. Congrats! I installed it on my 7610 and PC. Be sure to remove any previous version from both your phone and PC before installing the new version. Other than that, it seems to work like a charm. The trial version will allow you to store up to 200 items. I've also updated LifeBlogger to support the new release. Backward compatibility with 0.9x remains.
