GooglME 0.4.1

I've just released GooglME 0.4.1.

This version fixes a problem with sending SMS on a Sony Ericsson T616.

Thanks to John for reporting the problem, Russ for helping with the testing on his phone.

PowerBook Setup

I just finished setting up Vik's new PowerBook G4. I wasn't able to use the automagic transfer/upgrade feature as her old Mac doesn't have FireWire.

It really took very little effort to re-install her applications and move all documents/preferences over.

The wireless keyboard and mouse setup was pretty straight forward too, although I'm pretty disappointed with the keyboard's on/off switch. Why in the hell did they decide to place it underneath? Having to lift the keyboard to turn it on/off is ridiculous.

We're still waiting for an iCurve and iSkin. They should arrive tomorrow.

[@003]

They arrived a few minutes ago. All setup now. Very nice.

CPU Fan

I've decided to also replace the CPU fan in my desktop machine. I figured if the power supply was about to die, the CPU fan wouldn't last much longer. I just ordered a new Thermaltake Volcano 7 which should arrive in a few days.

Powered Up

I received the CoolMax CX-400B earlier today, installation was pretty painless. Finally, I can hear myself think.

So far I'm pretty pleased. Even though it has a bigger fan, it's definitely quieter.

Tasks

I've been looking for a web-based to-do/tasks list manager for a while. I tried a few, but never found one I liked enough to use. Until yesterday, when I stumbled onto Tasks. I liked it so much that I bought a copy.

Installation was a breeze, apart from creating a MySQL database, everything was fully automated.

I love the fact that it automatically detects mobile devices. Being able to access the tasks on my phone was important.

The iCalendar and RSS integrations are not bad either.

Being able to create a task based on information from a web page, using a bookmarklet, is really nice too.

It's not perfect but it's pretty darn close.

mobibot 0.3

Mobibot v0.3 is now running on the #mobitopia IRC channel.

I added support for automatically bookmarking the channel links to del.icio.us/mobibot using David Czarnecki's most excellent delicious-java library.

Be Cool

We went to see Be Cool yesterday. ***1/2

Aluminum

So, what do you get for your wife's 40th birthday? Diamonds?

No. Aluminum. 15-inch worth.

Dinner at Madame K's was much better than we both expected.

The Traditional Bad Boy Pie, a pepperoni, sausage, onions, mushrooms and big ragged hunks of green pepper in a classic red sauce pizza, was really good.

The Orgasm, a deep-dish chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream, was to die for.

Quite a fun evening.

Cellphones are scary!

I just read this article on our beloved movie stars leaving their cellphones wide open at the Oscars. The company who tracked them draws a correlation to the Paris Hilton incident.

What a bunch of bologni. This was a PR stunt. The newsmedia is clueless, they fell for it.

Paris's phone was never hacked. The service was, and apparently it wasn't all that hard.

Is allowing your cellphone to be discovered via bluetooth really a security risk? Aren't most cellphones requiring user interaction/approval in order to establish pairing, etc.?

There's money to be made in scaring the crap out of people using any kind of consumer technology, that's why everybody does it.

Power Supply

I've just ordered a new power supply for my desktop machine, a CoolMax CX-400B.

I spent a better part of the morning trying to figure out what was wrong with the old one. It's wheezing like crazy. At first I thought it was the fan, but it doesn't look like it. Better safe than sorry.

The birthday girl has deserted me in favor of spending some quality time with her nephews.

Happy 40th

Today is my wife's 40th birthday. I just went out and bought a single pink rose, a birthday card and a Chai Tea.

Tonight we'll have a dinner at Madame K's.

Happy B-Day, Sweetie.

Bye Bye Six

Bye Bye Six We just found Six dead in her cage. Looks like she died on her way back from getting some water, earlier this morning. Probably a heart attack. I guess yesterday's procedure was too much for her. We will be going back to the vet so they can properly dispose (Don't you hate that word?) of her. As an homage to one little resilient hamster, here's my favorite picture of her:
Very aptly titled "PocketSix".
