Caricatures

O'Reilly's new JSP book, JavaServer Pages, has finally been released.

Last nite's final installment of the Dunes miniseries wasn't any better. The pace picked up a bit but I still came close to falling asleep on more than one occasion.

Yesterday afternoon, while making copies at the Bellevue Library, we had our caricatures drawn by Tom Huff, the fastest pen in the world. Contrary to the girl who did the one for our wedding in Vegas, this guy is really fast (2/3 mins per) and works without any templates. I am portrayed cooking, Vicki's reading.

If you're in needs of a remote hut custom alarm system, check out www.AlarmsPro.com. Alarms Pro is the tool my friend Frank Knapp has been working on for years, it simply rocks.

Apple announce Q1 earnings substantially below expectations. Watch the stock take another nosedive. The Wall Street suits are clueless when it comes to computer manufacturers and the Internet. Pretty pathetic. I haven't been doing much with my portfolio as of late, I should start buying low.

Apple should merge with 3Com, says Sculley. What has John been up to lately anyway? Investing in Broadband and giving "armchair advice", apparently.

No Oscars for Billy. Can't say I'll miss him.

FCC weighs 10-digit dialing for all calls. Do I care one way or the other? Nope.

Kawa 5.0 it out. I guess I'm going to have to give the release version a try.

Computer companies specialize in giving consumers lousy products. I couldn't agree more. I would even go one step further and blame it on The Evil Empire. But then again if we keep on knowingly buy defective software, who's really to blame?

KDE 2.01 is out. And I just got 2.0 fully installed… Here is the list of changes between 2.0 and 2.0.1.

I've written a short guide to help with Installing Tomcat under Red Hat Linux.

Connectix introduced Virtual PC 4.0. Some much needed improvements (better performance, auto-expandable disk images, multi-OSs support, etc.) We might upgrade. No mention of OS X though.

The second installment of the Dunes miniseries moved a little quicker. Vicki rightfully pointed out that William Hurt had a very small role after all. Still a yawner, IMAO.

Apache Group unveils Java-based SVG viewer & toolkit.

Sun will introduce Forte for Java Release 2, Internet Edition next week. I use Forte for Java CE, once in a while; it's pretty nice. The JSP plug-in does sound interesting. I've yet to find a decent JSP IDE, and I've tried them all (UltraDev, VisualAge, JBuilder, etc.)

Bette Midler's TV hubby walks out. I kinda liked the guy.

Yet another McAfee VirusScan definition update.

The first installment of the Dunes miniseries was a little slow for my taste. Hopefully it will pick up some pace tonite. Vicki thought it was a lot closer to the book than the 1994 movie was. The scenery, decors and wide camera angles reminded me of the first Star Wars.

SGI buys into SuSE Linux. One of these days I'll find time to play with SuSE. I hear it is pretty good and works great on PowerPCs.
