Delivery Day

If everything goes according to plan, my new computer should arrive today, via UPS. The drive, nic and video cards should also be here today, via FedEx.

I'm also expecting some cigars from the Thompson Cigars Co., via Airborne

On December 17, 1959 The film On the Beach premiered in New York City and in 17 other cities. It was the first motion picture to debut simultaneously in major cities around the world.

IP Monitor 1.3.2 Update

Thanks to Alco Blom (the author of URL Manager Pro) carbonized version of the menu sharing toolkit, I was able to implement support for shared menus under Mac OS X.

Training

I'm finally starting to resume a somewhat regular daily training schedule. I've really been feeling physically under the weather since my back injury. My strength is slowly, but surely, coming back. And I've been able to gradually increase my daily cardiovascular workouts.

Segwayed

Dave enjoyed the ride. Sounds like fun.

Pretender

We watched the Pretender: Island of the Haunted movie on TNT yesterday night. Made me realize how much I really miss that show.

On December 11, 1844 Dr. Horace Wells became the first person to have a tooth extracted after receiving an anesthetic for the dental procedure. Nitrous Oxide, or laughing gas, was the anesthetic.

Politique & Segway

Politique

I don't usually use my blog to express my political views. I consider politic to be very much like religion. It is all about personal choices and willingness to take leaps of faith. There're no rights or wrongs, just educated guesses.

That being said…

Dave, among others, thinks that Aschroft is not trustworthy and Bush should fire him. I don't trust him either, but I don't agree with merely getting rid of the delivery boy. I would aim higher on the food chain.

Draw your own conclusions, if you must.

My computer crashes too, says Bill Gates

I know what is not on his X-mas wish list… a decent haircut. Somebody, please, get the man a new flowbee.;-)

Segway

I've been thinking about Ginger. I can see how it could improve efficiency in the workplace, in warehouses, etc. But I have to wonder about an invention touted as replacement for walking. Our nation is increasingly becoming overweight. Walking is just about the only form of exercise most people get on a regular basis.

Interesting… a Google search revealed that I am not alone.

Betaware

Juliet is an interesting (and fast) Java code browser.

LCD iMac

It's about damn time.

The multi-color thing has ran its course. Everybody is emulating it, from Compaq to George Forman. Not to mention how tired I am of Jobb's rehashed Mac OS X demos. We've all seen windows being docked in slow motion… It's time to move on, Steve.

iJoke

The more I look into it, the more I realize how much of a joke the iPod really is. Too little, too late has never been more to the point.

On December 8, 1994 In Los Angeles, 12 alternate jurors were chosen for the O.J. Simpson murder trial.

In the Spotlight

We went to visit Jake yesterday, and I took some pictures. The little guy is doing better. He is now breathing on his own.

Greet This

Don't wet my lips then yank my chain, because like everyone else I'll go elsewhere.

EditPlus

I've been trial-testing UltraEdit for a few weeks now. I like it, but it does have a few annoying features. I'm going to give EditPlus a try next. It looks like I may have to keep UltraEdit around too, no diff in EditPlus. I can do without it though. I'm more interested in comparing the content of directories, a la BBEdit.

On December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor, located on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, was attacked by nearly 200 Japanese warplanes. The attack resulted in the U.S. entering into World War II.

New XP Box

New Box

I've just ordered a barebone PC from AccessMicro. Here are the specs:

My friend, Gabe, greatly helped with selecting the final components.

I've never used AccessMicro before, but have always gotten great service from their parent company, McGlen.

It should arrive in 9 to 12 days. Then, I'll likely add the following:

I intend to run Windows XP Professional, of course.

I haven't completely made up my mind yet, but I think I'll turn my current workstation into a secondary Linux server.

Award This

Since the sweeps are over, most of our favorite shows are stuck in repeat mode. We ended watching the Billboard Awards on Tuesday night. I basically came to the conclusion that I truly dislike awards shows. There's really nothing more annoying than a bunch of overpaid artists patting themselves on the back.

Whether the winners are chosen by their peers or based on sales, the whole premise is utterly ridiculous. Of course, there are few shows where the fans actually cast the votes. In other words, the ones nobody cares about except for the exposure and publicity they provide.

Nuts

I've been cracking and eating walnuts lately, which is pretty messy. It makes me wonder how commercial nut hullers actually work… And what about sunflower seeds?

JarWiz

A nifty little utility for managing files in Java ARchives.
