Movies (2009)

Ninja Assassin
Good story, pace and some terrific fighting scenes. You can't ask for much more in this genre.

Law Abiding Citizen
Pure escapism. The ending felt rushed and a bit disappointing.

District 9
Quite possibly the best sci-fi movie I've ever seen. How it was made for around $30m is just beyond me.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
We both really enjoyed it. Campy, yes, but we like that.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Sometimes bigger is not better. This movie is a total mess. You get double the action, double the girls, double the Autobots, double the Decepticons, double the lame jokes, even double the dogs. Yet, in the end, if you don't succumb to boredom, there's nothing left but a big incoherent blur.

Star Trek
Another "low-expectations"-movie that turned out to be quite good. Funny, great action and a story line that ingeniously incorporate the old with the new. This was the first movie we watched in DLP; totally stunning picture quality.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Not a fan of either Jackman or Schreiber… Needless to say I was pretty much convinced I would hate this movie. Surprisingly, it held together quite well, with a good storyline and stellar action scenes. Jackman wasn't in his usual over-the-top acting mode which helped a lot. Shreiber was quite despicable, as usual.

Watchmen
Didn't click with me. I was bored.

Taken
Pure escapism. Terrific action scenes. Liam Neeson kicks ass, literally.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
Still having mixed feelings about it. As Vicki said, not enough action.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop
Cute and funny.
