Panic Room
We just came back from a late showing of Panic Room. We both really enjoyed it. The auditorium was jampacked. I'm pretty sure it'll be #1 at the box office.
I spent the last couple days working on Vicki's computer. She started getting some hard disk errors on Thursday morning. I ran Norton Utilities, which found and fixed some bad blocks, but the errors didn't stop. I tried everything. I even went as far as backing up the entire drive and reformatting it, but that did not help either.
We ended up going CompuUSA yesterday morning to pick a replacement drive, a Maxtor 20GB (K012020GH) DiamondMax. I found some directions on replacing the hard drive in a original iMac (Rev. A), which took about 45 minutes to complete.
Pretty good instructions overall, except for the removal of the processor daughter card, which is completely unnecessary, and the steps describing how to remove the screws on each side of the hard disk while still in the chassis. It is actually a lot easier to first extract the chassis/drive and then remove the screws. The chassis is held in place by couple metal hooks/notches, you simply need to push it backwards to unhook it and lift forward to extract it.
I struggled with putting the CPU chassis back in place for a while, which really pissed me off because that part I had done a couple times before in order to upgrade the memory.
Smooth sailing from that point on. I was able to do a full restore from backup and reboot without a hitch. That's pretty much when I realized that we had nothing out for dinner and we made the decision to eat out and go see a movie.
Also, since I had to do a lot of waiting on Thursday afternoon, I took the chance to upgrade Tomcat to version 4.0.3 on this server. This time it worked like a charm.
