Apple would like to announce that starting with the release of Java 1.4.1, we will no longer be supporting the JDirect technology.
In addition, we do not recommend that developers use any method of accessing Carbon from Java 1.4.1, even through JNI.
We will continue to provide support for JDirect in our Java 1.3.1 implementation. We will be providing our Java 1.3.1 implementation for a period of time to allow for backward compatibility. Although we have no specific plans laid out for our next major release of Mac OS X, we intend to include support for both 1.3.1 and 1.4.x in at least that release.
If you use JDirect in your products, please plan accordingly. Please direct feedback about this announcement directly to me at [email protected]
