How to install a package (.ipk) on the Pre (Windows)

  • Install the SDK
  • Enable Developer Mode on the Pre:
    • In Card view or in the Launcher application, type the following: upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart
    • Tap the resulting Developer Mode Enabler icon.
    • In the application, move the Developer Mode slider to the On position.
    • Tap Reset the Device.
    • When reset is complete, Developer mode is enabled.\
  • If you are running a 64-bit flavor of Windows, you'll need to install a 64-bit version of the Novacom driver by:
    • Extracting the installer directly from the webOS Doctor archive. Simply rename the archive to .zip, open, extract and install.
    • Or by installing the webOS Doctor, but don't connnect your phone when asked, just quit.
  • Connect the Pre via USB
  • Select Just Charge on the Pre
  • Open a command (cmd.exe) window in the location of the ipk
  • Issue the following command:
palm-install foo.ipk
