Google Send To SMS: RIP

I just noticed this morning that Google has retired their send to phone/sms service.

You can still send SMS from Google Maps though.

Nope, unfortunately the Google Maps interface has been retired too... only email is left!

This is terrible!

Why did Google do this??? I can't believe it!

I can still "Send to Phone" using Google Maps, as of a few minutes ago.
